Whatever happens, we'll refund your money

Renfe offers AVE, Alvia, AV City, Euromed, Altaria, Intercity (LD), Talgo and Trenhotel passengers three compensation options if their train is delayed:

  • A refund of the corresponding ticket price in the same payment method.
  • A refund of the corresponding ticket price plus 20% extra as a discount code to be used on their next train trip.
  • Exclusively for +Renfe loyalty programme passengers: refund of the corresponding ticket price in Renfe Points plus 30% extra.

Channels to request compensation for delays

In case of refund of the price in the same channel as the payment method:

  • At renfe.com (for tickets paid by credit card or Renfe Points).
  • Station ticket offices and travel agencies.

In case of refund, in discount code for the next journey:

  • Exclusive service at renfe.com.
  • Applicable exclusively in national sales services*.
  • For tickets purchased with credit card and in cash. Not applicable to tickets purchased with Renfe Points.
  • The deadline to request compensation is 3 months from the journey date.
  • The deadline to purchase the new ticket after receiving the discount code is 6 months.

When the refund is in Renfe Points:

  • Exclusive service at renfe.com.
  • Applicable exclusively in national sales services*.
  • The points will be added directly to the customer's +Renfe account.
  • Applicable to tickets purchased with credit card and in cash. Not applicable to tickets purchased with Renfe Points.
  • The deadlines in this regard are 3 months from the journey date to request compensation and 3 years to use the points.

*Renfe Sales Services: AVE, AV City, Alvia, Euromed, Altaria, Trenhotel, Talgo and Intercity (Long Distance) trains. Tourist and theme trains are excluded.
