In-seat Food Service

Page content

Mondays to Fridays and Sundays, AVE and Euromed trains have in-seat food service in First Class (except in the Madrid-Leon AVE).

Special Menus

A special menu may be requested for those with food intolerances, religious practices, beliefs, etc. Renfe has special menus available for such needs.

Renfe cannot guarantee that meals are entirely free of any allergens for some passengers with intolerance or allergies, including traces thereof, and thus Renfe unfortunately accepts no liability for any possible allergic reactions regardless of their severity. Children travelling in First Class as unaccompanied minors who are extremely allergic to certain foods, including nuts, may not use the meal service whenever indicated by their parents or guardians.

Requests for special menus can be made at least 24 hours before the official train departure time. The possible ticket changes need a new special menu request whenever formalised 24 hours before departure of the new train. Ticket changes within 24 hours before train departure lose the special menu option. Renfe recommends checking the train's specific service when purchasing the ticket and requesting, when necessary, one of the following special menus:

  • Children.- With products that children normally like the most, cereals, pasta, sausages, etc. in an attractive presentation.
  • Diabetics.- Prepared with a balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates with no added sugars.
  • Gluten intolerant (celiac disease).- No products containing wheat, barley, rye and oats.
  • Low Sodium.- No added salt or food with a high sodium content.
  • Ovo-lacto vegetarian.- These menus contain no meat, fish or derivatives thereof.
  • Strict vegetarian (vegan).- Non-dairy or strict vegetarian, also eliminating honey, eggs and dairy.
  • Lactose Free.- Excluding cheese, dairy products and derivatives, lactose and milk products.
  • Muslim (Halal).- no pork or derivatives thereof, and no alcohol used during preparation. This is certified.
  • Jewish (Kosher).- Foods selected, prepared and served according to Jewish customs and laws. This is certified.
  • Vigil Menu.- Meals containing no meat or meat products.
