On AVE and Larga Distancia
Animals can be transported as long as other passengers do not object.
The owner is responsible for any inconvenience and damages that the animal might cause.
They must have a "health certificate". Travel is limited to small pets, such as dogs, cats, ferrets and birds (not farmyard animals) no heavier than 6 kg.
Only one pet is allowed per passenger, and it must always travel inside a cage or device no larger than 60 x 35 x 35 cm and that has a waste containment and disposal system.
In sleeping accommodation, animals may only travel in full departments/cabins (families).
The fee will be 50% of a General Price ticket for the train and class used for the journey. Other rates or discounts will not apply.
In AVE trains the price to be paid for transport is equivalent to 50% of a seat in Tourist Class depending on the journey and type of train, and the passenger may travel in any of the train’s categories.
In sleeping cars, it will correspond to 50% of the price for sitting Business Class, if the client travels in First Class sleeping car, or 50% of the sitting Tourist Class in the rest of bed seats.
On Ave trains it is possible for an animal’s cage to occupy a seat. In this case, the General Price or Return ticket for the class in question will apply.
On Media Distancia
Small pets will be allowed on trains, always under the owner’s supervision provided that the other passengers do not object, or any inconvenience is caused to them. The owner will be responsible for any damages or injuries caused. Pets must travel with a health certificate, if necessary, in accordance with health and safety conditions established in current legislation.
Only small animals will be allowed, such as dogs, cats and birds, which must not be heavier than six kilograms. Only one pet will be allowed per passenger, and must always travel inside a cage or device with a waste containment and disposal system. The cage must not be larger than 60 x 35 x 35 cm.
This service is available for all Media Distancia trains but it can be limited on overcrowded trains. Maximum limits per train and carriage can be established for this service. This service will not occupy a seat nor can a seat be reserved for this purpose. The price will be the one established on the current price list.
In accordance with current legislation, guide dogs can travel on any train for free.
On Cercanías
Small pets will be allowed on trains, always under the owner’s custody provided that the other passengers do not object or inconvenience is not caused to them.
No ticket will be issued nor will any amount be paid for their travel.

Cercanías may limit this service to the trains, times and stations authorised in each Network.
