Our Trains

The Trenhotel, which will initially be incorporated into cross-country night services, has a variable gauge system that allows it to travel on both UIC and conventional gauge tracks, reaching a maximum speed of 220 km/h with a capacity of 234 passengers on board.

The Trenhotel incorporates an updated night service, and it redefines sleeping capacity by eliminating the tourist and preferred cabs and introduces, as the only seated capacity class, the high comfort, super-reclining seats (ASPR), similar to those used in aviation on long-distance flights. The capacity of 234 passengers is configured as follows: 136 seats (6 cars with 20 seats, plus 2 end cars with 8 seats each) and 98 beds (9 cars with 5 Grand Class double cabins, plus one cabin with 4 Grand Class double cabins in which one is suitable for PRMs). It also has one Cafeteria car and another Restaurant car, in which à-la-carte restaurant services will be offered.

The PRM capacity will be expanded by two adapted super-reclining seats in the last 6 trains that are built, with the other 4 remaining for an upcoming modification.

Considerable effort has been put into the design of his renovated night service, including a careful selection of materials, colours, lighting and decoration to facilitate customer rest and comfort.

This Trenhotel, which represents an evolution of series 7, continues with Talgo body technology, in which the bodies swing naturally and are supported on the Talgo trucks.

The train is formed by self-supporting, extruded aluminium bodies. The composition is symmetrical, based on the Cafeteria car, which has two Talgo trucks. Based on this car, the intermediate car bodies are supported on the preceding car through an articulated, weight-bearing rod, with the other end resting on its wheel truck through columns and secondary suspension air bags. All cars are connected by a Talgo-type of semi-permanent coupling.

The bodies have deformable, energy absorption elements and anti-overriding elements for protection against collisions. The cars are completely hermetic as a safety measure against the pressure waves formed by speed or passing through tunnels, and the outside doors are also hermetically sealed.

Ride system

The ride system of the Trenhotel is characteristic of Talgo, with wheels that roll independently from each other and with the possibility of varying the width in order to be able to travel on both UIC and conventional gauge tracks. The width can be changed automatically, without requiring outside intervention, at a speed of up to 15 km/h.

The wheels have a guide system that aligns them with the track at all times, thereby decreasing the aggressiveness in the wheel-rail relationships and improving the wheel-rail dynamic. The frames are welded steel and have the traditional yoke shape, supporting the wheel sets at the bottom and the secondary suspension at the top.

Electrical and safety system

The cars depend electrically on the motor, so they have two, 400-kV static converters (one per end car) to convert the current coming from the rail car into 380 V for train consumption. Each of these converters, based on IGBT semi-conductor technology, will feed a semi-composition from the end car to the Cafeteria.

Each car has equipment for controlling the ride and safety parameters and the electrical, pneumatic and comfort systems. At the ends, there are central supervision stations for viewing and managing breakdowns and the status of all equipment in the composition.

The Trenhotel is equipped with energy absorption devices in the event of a collision, anti-roll and anti-overriding systems, automatic braking and ride control.

Regarding fire protection, the train has detectors in all cabins, WCs and equipment and for non-crewed areas, in addition to fire walls according to legislation in force.
