Does my ticket allow changes?    

The Cercanías (Suburban), Rodalies (Commuter) and Metric Gauge services do not allow changes.

On AVE (high-speed), AVE International between Spain and France, Alvia, Euromed and Intercity trains, the terms and conditions for changes will depend on the option (Básico, Elige or Prémium) you have purchased:

  • The Basic ticket can be changed for €10, plus the difference in price with the new ticket, if any (if the new ticket has a lower price than the original one, the difference will not be refunded), provided that the change is made at least 24 hours before the departure of the train of the original ticket. It is also permitted to change its holder for €40.
  • Elige and Elige Confort tickets allow a free first change (you will only pay the price difference with the new ticket, if any). The following changes have a cost per change of €10. If the new ticket is priced lower than the original, the difference will not be refunded and if the new ticket is priced higher, the difference must be paid.

You can upgrade your journey by purchasing, for an extra cost, unlimited free changes (allowing you to change the date and time of travel as often as you like without being charged for it, only paying the price difference with the new ticket, if any; only for departures and arrivals within Spain), Puente AVE (you can bring your departure forward or delay it on the same day as the journey, without change fees and without paying a price difference) and Superflex Pack (includes unlimited free changes, Puente AVE and full refund, only for departures and arrivals within Spain). These extras are not available on the Basic ticket.

  • the Prémium ticket includes the Superflex Pack. Remember that the Prémium ticket is not available on AVE International.

The origin and destination cannot be changed.

On Avant and Media Distancia trains, a ticket may be changed a maximum of three times under the following conditions:

  • First change of the ticket: No fees, regardless of whether it is for the same or different day.
  • Following changes: 10% of the ticket being changed.

When the ticket is changed to a higher price, the customer will pay the difference between the two and the established change fees will also be applied.

When the ticket is changed to a lower value ticket, the change fees are eliminated.
