Cathedral of Saint Mary

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of Girona is one of the world's most famous Gothic works. It stands on the highest point in the town, above the Onyar River. It boasts the world's largest Gothic nave (a total width of 22.98 metres). It was originally built in the 11th century in the Romanesque style. Construction was based on the Gothic model between the 13th and 18th centuries. Today, its Baroque façade overlooks the Onyar River.

Be sure to check out the staircase at the main entrance, the porticoes of San Miguel and the Apostles, and all the sculptures around the cathedral. Discover the legends surrounding the witch sculpture. The surrounding gardens and narrow streets are a must-see.

Casa Masó

Be sure to visit Casa Masó, owned by the architect of the same name. It represents a symbol of the emergence of Noucentism in Girona. The best time to visit is undoubtedly at sunset, for its pleasant luminosity. The view of the river will not fail to impress.

The traditional houses on the banks of the Onyar River stretch for almost a kilometre, and are a major attraction of the town. Built over the centuries, they offer a splendid image worthy of a small Mediterranean town. All the arches at the bottom of the houses were painted according to a chromatic palette designed by Enric Ansesa, James J. Faixó and architects J. Fusibles and Viader.

Call Jueu

A small Jewish community settled here until the end of the 15th century. This is one of the best-preserved medieval districts in Europe. The Bonastruc ça Porta Centre, a former synagogue, is now a study centre and museum of Jewish history. We also recommend visiting the medieval tombstones in the Jewish cemetery on Montjuic mountain, also known as the Mountain of the Jews.
