Huelva beaches: Costa de la Luz

Playa de Islantilla

Just 20 km from Portugal, it is considered one of the best beaches in Huelva. Its natural environment, its gastronomy and its climate make Islantilla a heavenly destination. It boasts a wide promenade home to bars and spots for sampling the best of summer food. 

Playa El Rompido

Located between Punta Umbría and Isla Cristina, this beach is nestled in the Marismas del Río Piedras Natural Park. This beach is known for its peninsula of sand stretching around 13 kilometres parallel to the coast, known as La Flecha.

 

 

Playa de Matalascañas

The only point of access by coast to Doñana National Park. One of the busiest beaches in Huelva on account of its proximity to Seville. This beach boasts all kinds of services and amenities, it is even possible to take a camel ride through the dunes or horseback through nature. This beach is known for the iconic large rock in the sea, known as "El Tapón de Matalascañas".

Punta Umbria

Another beach located in a natural park is Playa de Punta Umbria, in the Marismas del Odiel marshes, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Punta Umbría is home to other beaches that are also worth mention:

  • Playa de la Bota: a beach boasting fine white sand. Located in a semi-virgin setting, it gets particularly during summer. In this part of the coast, the sea is particularly quiet, making it perfect for a peaceful dip.
  • Playa de los Enebrales: a practically virgin beach equipped with wooden walkways, meaning it can be accessed from the road. This beach is particularly quiet, meaning if you are looking to get away from it all, this is the place for you!
  • Playa de El Portil: This beach is particularly long and wide, boasting fine sand and calm waters. It is located very close to the freshwater lagoon that has the same name, meaning you can enjoy the beach and lagoon from the same spot. In summer, it gets particularly busy on account of its proximity to the city. Playa El Portil is known for its Andalusian cuisine with Arabic touches, meaning that if you go here, you cannot miss out on the food!

Playa de Mazagón

Known as the "Jewel of Costa de la Luz", Playa de Mazagón will stun you with its natural beauty. Its protected dunes and crystal clear waters make it the perfect place for those looking for peace and quiet in nature.
