San Sebastián–Santiago de Compostela (8 days, 7 nights)

Day one, Saturday: San Sebastián - Carranza

Reception in San Sebastian at 1 p.m. Hotel Costa Vasca. Visit and lunch, then the luxury bus will take us to Bilbao, where El Transcantábrico will be waiting for us. Upon our arrival the crew will offer us a welcome drink. Travel to Carranza while enjoying our first dinner on board. Night in Carranza. 

Day two, Sunday: Carranza - Santander

We will start the morning, as every day, enjoying our delicious á la carte breakfast and buffet. The Transcantábrico will return to Bilbao for a visit, a city filled with dynamism, which has managed to reinvent itself after the decline of its traditional heavy industry activity. The tour includes the entrance to the famous Guggenheim Museum, symbol of this new Bilbao. Return to the train for a meal while heading to Santander. Tour of the elegant capital of Cantabria and free time to discover it on your own. Dinner and night in Santander.
 

Day three, Monday: Santander - Cabezón de la Sal

After breakfast, the coach will set off for Potes, crossing the impressive La Hermida Pass. After the visit of this charming Cantabrian villa, you can enjoy a thermal circuit at the La Hermida Spa. Lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit El Capricho, in Comillas, a great and colourful 19th century palace built by Antonio Gaudí. Dinner and night on board in Cabezón de la Sal. 

Day four, Tuesday: Cabezón de la Sal - Llanes

The day will start off with a visit to the Neocave of Altamira, a museum and accurate reproduction of this greatest exponent of cave painting art of the Upper Palaeolithic. Next stop is Santillana del Mar, a town with its magnificently preserved medieval historic centre. After lunch, we will return to the train, to enter Asturian lands to Llanes. Dinner on board and overnight stay in LLanes. 

Day five, Wednesday: Llanes - Oviedo

After breakfast we will go by bus into the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park. We will visit Lake Enol, and then head to the Sanctuary of Covadonga, a sacred place full of tradition and legends. Return to El Transcantábrico for lunch on board while we travel to Oviedo, capital of the Principality of Asturias. Visit, dinner and night in Oviedo. 

Day six, Thursday: Oviedo - Luarca

The day will start off with a tour of Gijón, a coastal city on the Cantabrian Sea
packed with cultural events We will have lunch in Gijón before heading back to El Transcantábrico to travel along the Asturian coast to Luarca, the 'White Town of the Green Coast'. Here we will enjoy a guided tour of this charming fishing village. Dinner and night on board in Luarca. 

Day seven, Friday: Luarca - Viveiro

Travel to Ribadeo, a historic Galician town bordering the Principality of Asturias. We will travel along the coast to Las Catedrales Beach by bus, one of the most spectacular in the world. Next, we will take a panoramic tour of Ribadeo and have lunch. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Viveiro by train, where, after the guided tour, you can enjoy some free time. Dinner and night in Viveiro. 

Day eight, Saturday: Viveiro - Santiago de Compostela

During your last breakfast on board, we will arrive at Ferrol, where the El Transcantábrico bus will pick you up and take you to Santiago de Compostela. Tour of the historical centre of this city, a destination of pilgrims for a thousand years, which holds countless artistic jewels, such as its magnificent cathedral. End of trip after the visit, at the parador de los Reyes Católicos, around 1:00 p.m.

 

Santiago de Compostela–San Sebastián (8 days, 7 nights)

Day one, Saturday: Santiago de Compostela - Viveiro

Meeting point at the Parador de los Reyes Católicos in Santiago de Compostela at 12 p.m. After the welcome, we will visit the historic centre of this city, the destination of pilgrims for a thousand years, which treasures countless artistic jewels, mainly its splendid cathedral. After lunch, our luxury bus will take us to Ferrol, where El Transcantábrico is waiting for you. Upon arrival, the crew will offer us a welcome toast, as the train heads off to Viveiro. Tour through the beautiful old town, where we will have dinner and spend the night on board. 

Day two, Sunday: Viveiro - Oviedo

We will start the morning, as every day, enjoying our delicious á la carte breakfast and buffet. The Transcantábrico will bring us closer to Ribadeo, a historic Galician town bordering the Principality of Asturias. We will travel along the coast to Las Catedrales Beach by bus, one of the most spectacular in the world. Panoramic tour of Ribadeo and lunch. We will enter the Asturian region by train. Arrival and tour of Luarca, the 'White Town of the Green Coast', later returning to the train and heading to Oviedo. Overnight stay in Oviedo.
 

Day three, Monday: Oviedo - Llanes

The day will start off with a tour of Gijón, a coastal city on the Cantabrian Sea packed with cultural events Lunch. Afterwards, we will travel to the capital of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo. Tour and back to the train. Dinner on board during the journey to Llanes, where we will stay overnight. 

Day four, Tuesday: Llanes

We will travel to the heart of the Principality of Asturias on bus, reaching the magnificent Picos de Europa National Park. We will visit Lake Enol, and then head to the Sanctuary of Covadonga, a sacred place full of tradition and legends. Next, Cangas de Onís. Lunch. After lunch, we will arrive in Llanes, a cute fishing village in Eastern Asturias. Visit and free time. Dinner and night in Llanes. 

Day five, Wednesday: Llanes - Cabezón de la Sal

After breakfast, the coach will set off up to Potes, crossing the impressive La Hermida Pass. After the visit of this charming Cantabrian villa, you can enjoy a thermal circuit at the La Hermida Spa. Day eight, Saturday: Carranza - San Sebastián

During your last breakfast on board, we will return to Bilbao, where the bus from El Transcantábrico awaits us to get closer to San Sebastian. Visit this elegant and beautiful city, venue for the important cultural events. The trip will end around 1 p.m. at the Hotel Costa Vasca in San Sebastián.


 

MICRO-TRIPS (4 days / 3 nights)

Special micro-trip Oviedo - San Sebastián (4 days - 3 nights)

Date of departure from Oviedo, 2024 season:

  • March: 26

First day, Tuesday: Oviedo - Gijón - Llanes

Welcome onboard the train at Oviedo station, at 10:00.  Passengers are taken to their rooms on the train. We will visit the historic centre of Oviedo and the bus will take us to Gijón. Lunch. We will visit Gijón during the evening. We shall then return to the train and travel to Llanes. Dinner onboard during the journey and overnight stay at Llanes.
 

Second day, Wednesday: Llanes - Picos de Europa - Cabezón de la Sal

After breakfast, the bus will take us to Picos de Europa, Lakes of Covadonga, Santuario and Cangas de Onis, the first Spanish capital after the Reconquest. Lunch. During the evening, we will return to the train and visit the fishing village of Llanes. Dinner onboard and overnight stay at Cabezón de la Sal.
 

Third day, Thursday: Cabezón de la Sal - Santillana - Santander

The first stop will be the Neocave of Altamira, a museum and accurate reproduction of this greatest exponent of cave painting art of the Upper Palaeolithic. Next stop is Santillana del Mar, a town with its magnificently preserved medieval historic centre. After lunch, we will head by train to Santander, the elegant capital of Cantabria, where we will take a guided tour and where you can enjoy some free time. Dinner and night in Santander.
 

Fourth day, Friday: Santander - Bilbao - San Sebastián

El Transcantábrico will travel to Bilbao during breakfast. Upon arrival, we will say goodbye to the crew and to the train. We will visit this city packed with activities, which has managed to reinvent itself after the decline of its traditional heavy industry. The tour to the city includes the entrance to the famous Guggenheim Museum, symbol of this new Bilbao. After the visit, we will travel to San Sebastián, where we will have lunch at the Hotel Costa Vasca and finish the trip around 16:30.
 

 

Special micro-trip Santiago de Compostela - Gijón (4 days - 3 nights)

Departure date from Santiago de Compostela, 2024 season:

Day one, Saturday: Santiago de Compostela - Ferrol - Viveiro

Reception at 10:00, at the Reyes Católicos National Parador of Santiago de Compostela. Upon arrival, we will visit the historic centre and have lunch. In the afternoon, our luxury coach will take us to Ferrol, where the train and its crew will be waiting for us. Welcome and passengers taken to their rooms to start the journey by train to Viveiro. Visit, dinner and night at Viveiro.
 

Day two, Sunday: Viveiro - Ribadeo

The train will arrive at Ribadeo during breakfast, a historic Galician town bordering the Principality of Asturias. We will travel on the bus and cross the region of Oscos-Eo, a biosphere reserve, and we will arrive at Taramundi, an authentic natural theme park where water is the protagonist. We will visit Os Castros and Texois, one of the best ethnographic ensembles in the world, with a focus on water. Lunch, free time and return to Ribadeo. Dinner and night's stay at Ribadeo. 

 

Day three, Monday: Ribadeo - Luarca

After breakfast, we will visit Ribadeo and its surroundings, arriving at Las Catedrales beach, one of the most spectacular beaches in the world. Lunch in Ribadeo. During the evening, we will continue our trip by train to Luarca, La Villa Blanca de La Costa Verde, visit the town, have dinner on board and spend the night in Luarca.
 

Day four, Tuesday: Luarca - Gijón

We will arrive at Oviedo, Capital of the Principality of Asturias, while we enjoy our last breakfast on board. We will say farewell to the train and its crew at Oviedo. We will then visit Oviedo and the bus will take us to Gijón. Lunch at the Molino Viejo National Park, Gijón. The trip will end after having lunch, around 16:30.
