Without a doubt, a unique opportunity to enjoy this building, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, featuring the best music.

But if you like classical music, there's more! Barcelona becomes the capital of classical music this winter, thanks to the Barcelona Obertura initiative. Three emblematic venues, such as the Palau, L'Auditori and the Gran Teatre del Liceu will host first-class symphonic concerts and choral recitals throughout the winter season.

Photography: Michelangelo Antonioni and Luigi Ghirri at the Palau de la Virreina

  • The Palau de la Virreina hosts a free photography exhibition until 15 February: Michelangelo Antonioni and Luigi Ghirri. The exhibition brings together Antonioni's photographic series "The Enchanted Mountains" and Ghirri's works from the 1970s. Two artists who, although they did not meet, have works with a lot in common. Are you ready to discover it?

A museum dedicated to a single artist: Museu Tàpies

  • Located in the spectacular building of the former Montaner i Simón publishing house, the Tàpies Museum is dedicated to the work of the artist Antoni Tàpies. A space where art and thought are inseparable and that manages to reflect the artist's ideas through his works. You can discover the artist, and connect with his vision and artistic project. Clearly, an artistic event that you cannot miss.

Design: DHub Barcelona

  • If you are passionate about the world of design, you can't miss: DHub Barcelona. The DHub is Barcelona's key space for the recognition and promotion of its creative industries. A place where design, art and innovation converge . Its striking building, located in Plaza de les Glòries, offers exhibitions on fashion, graphic arts, product design and crafts, as well as additional activities, such as talks, festivals and award-giving ceremonies.

A seasonal dish to enjoy: escudella

  • Time to eat? It's easy! We propose a seasonal dish: escudella. It is a broth of meat, sausages and winter vegetables, which over time has become a symbol of Catalan gastronomy. In fact, it has earned much importance, making "Escudella i carn d'olla" the name of the first documented stew-type dish in Europe. You will be able to discover the most traditional version, with the same original recipe, or other more avant-garde versions, the result of the reinterpretation of the dish by haute cuisine establishments. Try it, you'll like it!

A local gift: Artisan nougat

  • We continue with gastronomy, but this time we go to the world of sweets. At this time of year, you simply cannot miss a dessert as traditional as nougat. With a history that dates back 800 years, when King James I of Aragon commissioned a special dessert for his daughter's wedding banquet, nougat is one of those desserts that has managed to maintain its tradition, while embracing innovation. We invite you to taste it in its various forms, which you will find in the many patisseries scattered around the city, such as Foix de Sarrià, La Colmena or Mauri, as well as in shops specialising in nougat, Vicens and La Campana. It can also be a sweet souvenir!

A magical tradition: the Three Wise Men Parade

  • If you are in Barcelona during Christmas, an event that you cannot miss is the Cavalcade of the Three Kings. On 5 January, Their Majesties of the East disembark at the port before parading through the city streets in their spectacular floats. A whole show, full of excitement, that fascinates young and old.

For runners: Modernist Circuit

  • Are you a runner? Then you're in luck! There's a truly special running route, the Modernist Circuit. A tour through the heart of the city and its main modernist points that combines sport and art. Follow in the footsteps of Antoni Gaudí across Barcelona. Beyond its architectural flagship, the Sagrada Familia, most of its creations in the city will transport you to imaginary worlds that deserve their recognition as a World Heritage Site, declared by Unesco and Casa Vicens, one of his first works. Its legacy will not leave you indifferent either, you only have to see the facade and interior of the Palau de la Música Catalana de Domenech and Montaner to be blown away by the vivid tones that its stained glass windows project.

Perhaps, because of that magical footprint that Gaudí left on Barcelona, it is also known as the city of dragons. If you look closely, you will surely find scales and claws in more than one corner of its streets.

Although Gaudí was not the only one to leave a modernist footprint on Barcelona. The Recinto Modernista de Sant Pau by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, is another of the city's prized jewels.

Barcelona's cosmopolitan history pays testament to its Roman past, as well as a Cathedral that has inspired novels and medieval castles with captivating views. Its streets are bursting with life, from Calle Verdi, where visitors can sample homemade vermouth or buy something vintage, to Paseo de Gracia, the Gothic Quarter or Las Ramblas. Don't forget to walk into the La Boqueria market to enjoy the many smells and flavours of the sea and land. Its cultural agenda, including museums, exhibitions, shows and theatres, is almost endless. Spaces such as the Liceu, the Palau de la Música Catalana or L'Auditori await.

Every last corner of Barcelona deserves to be discovered, as the city's ten districts all have something to offer: gastronomic routes, shopping areas, monuments... the list goes on. Discover Barcelona district by district!
