Guadalajara

Let yourself be surprised!

If you don't know Guadalajara, you should plan a getaway by train as soon as possible. Guadalajara is a city steeped in history. Of Roman origin, although with great influences from the Muslim era, it enjoyed importance as a city in the Middle Ages due to the important dynasty of the Mendoza family. These treasures have given the city a unique heritage, making it a must-see destination.

With its lively spirit and easy accessibility, Guadalajara offers a full agenda of cultural and recreational delights. Come discover and enjoy Guadalajara!

You cannot miss it

One of the most important civil constructions in Guadalajara is the Palacio del Infantado. It was built by Juan Guas in 1480, by order of Don Íñigo de Mendoza, who sought to reflect his status and power. That is why the building is a clear example of the luxury and splendour of the time. Its incredible façade with spires and its upper gallery stand out. Trust me, you'll want to capture it all in one photo.

With its fascinating blend of architectural styles, the Palace stands as an iconic landmark, hosting today the City Museum, the Provincial Museum Archive, and the Municipal Library within its walls.

But Guadalajara is much more than culture and history. Guadalajara has more than two million square meters of gardens. It is one of the greenest cities in Europe! Many of these parks and gardens are perfect for exercise or a delightful family adventure outdoors yet boast artistic and historical value.

The Municipal Zoo is located in one of these parks, in Parque del Río. It is a unique zoo with an area of up to 11 hectares. It stands out for its large number of both animal and plant species and has a Recovery Centre for Wildlife. Quite a different plan for children! (And not just children, but kids and adults alike).

Give yourself a treat

Time to eat? The typical gastronomy of Guadalajara is based on Castilian dishes: Roasts of lamb and goat, caldereta, morteruelo, hornazo, all of them good options to regain strength. Although a good local wine, accompanied by the famous Manchego cheese, on a terrace in the company of friends, is also a good option, isn't it?

Those with a sweet tooth are in luck. You can’t leave without tasting the "bizcochos borrachos", the signature dessert of the city, and the renowned Alcarria honey, protected by its Denomination of Origin. Quite a sweet memento of your visit.
