Will you join us to discover some of the essential places in the capital of Extremadura? There's no time to waste!

Roman Theatre of Mérida

It is undoubtedly the best-known monument in the city of Mérida. The stands are partially restored and adapted to accommodate visitors, but in general you will be surprised by their good condition.

If you go in summer, you can't miss the Festival de Teatro Clásico de Mérida, held every summer, and where you can enjoy a spectacular performance.

Plaza de España

It is a large square where you will find the typical atmosphere of the city of Mérida. It is the heart of modern life and where you can sit down to rest and enjoy Mérida life.

In addition, in this place you will find buildings such as the Co-Cathedral of Mérida.

But above all, the Plaza de España is the perfect place to enjoy the typical atmosphere of Mérida. There, you can also try Mérida's most characteristic gastronomy, since the countless bars that make up the square offer typical local dishes such as cojodongo or traditional migas of Extremadura

Amphitheatre of Mérida

Where gladiators fought before an audience that watched as if it were a show.

The part of the amphitheatre that is best preserved is the one that housed the gladiators before they went out to fight, but the stands and the rest are in ruins.

There is no better way to travel back in time and feel what gladiators when through than to visit this amphitheatre. Wouldn't you love to feel the sand beneath your feet?

Temple of Diana

A temple supported by ancient Corinthian-style columns. It is one of the oldest buildings in Mérida and it is thought that offerings were made to Caesar Augustus and not to the goddess Diana.

In addition, it is important to highlight something very distinctive: in the sixteenth century, a count utilised the structure of the temple to build his palace in its centre. In a way, this was the reason why the main structure of the temple has not been preserved to this day.

Arabic Alcazaba

Another of the essentials to see in Mérida. A fortress and main piece of the Arabic legacy in Cáceres. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and it is a fantastic place to enjoy the sunset from Mérida. You just can't miss it! Surely not!

National Museum of Roman Art
