At Renfe, we have developed a pioneering Twitter Alerts system using direct-message notifications for Cercanías de Madrid and Rodalies de Catalunya passengers to provide real-time information on any service incident that might affect their usual routes and timetables.
To use this service, available for Android and iOS, just subscribe by sending a direct message via the link that appears in the Tweet in our account profiles: @CercaniasMadrid and @Rodalies
When you click the link, a window will open in which a series of automation messages will offer you the different system configuration options. Choose the lines or sections you are interested in (up to three), the days of the week (Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday, or All), the time slots (up to two) that you want to receive notifications for, and preferred language (Spanish or Catalan).
The subscription can be amended or cancelled at any time, or even paused for a certain period (e.g. during holidays).
Once your subscription is set up, you will start receiving direct Twitter messages in real time with notifications that affect the defined lines and time slots. We recommend you allow this type of notification to pop up on your mobile device even when the screen is off.
