As a precautionary measure and for the purposes of ensuring transport safety, access to trains with electric scooters and PMVs (Personal Mobility Vehicles) is not permitted. Vehicles for people with reduced mobility and electric bicycles are excluded from this restriction.

Bicicletas

Travelling with your bike on Renfe is easier than ever. Just follow these instructions depending on the type of bike and train you will be travelling on!

  • If you are travelling with a folding bike or non-electric scooter:

    • Comparable to hand luggage. You can take one folding bike per person, as long as it is fully folded and the sum of its dimensions does not exceed 180 cm (height + length + width). Optional cover.
    • Travelling with a folding bike is free of charge and you do not need to purchase an add-on, except on Avlo trains where purchasing the Additional luggage add-on is required.
    • For greater ease, you can take your bicycle unfolded around the station, where you must fold it before entering the train and place it in the spaces intended for luggage. You don't need to use a cover, just take care not to damage or dirty other people's belongings.
  • If you are travelling with a disassembled bike:

    • Comparable to special baggage. Disassembled bikes are accepted on all our trains. To do this, you must remove at least one of the wheels, fold the handlebars parallel to the frame and place the bike inside a cover with maximum dimensions of 140×90×40 cm.
    • On AVE (high-speed), AVE Internacional, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed and Intercity trains, to take your disassembled bike, you will need to purchase a specific add-on when buying your ticket or add it before you travel. In the case of Avlo you must purchase the Additional Baggage add-on.
    • On Avant (mid-distance high-speed), Media Distancia Convencional Avant (regional train), Media Distancia Ancho Métrico (metric gauge mid-distance), and Cercanías (commuter) trains, you can take your bike disassembled for free, without the need to pay for an add-on.
    • To make things easier for you, you can take your bicycle before disassembling it through the station and then disassemble it before boarding the train and placing it in the spaces designated for special luggage, following our staff's instructions.

  • If you are travelling with a non-disassembled bicycle:

    • You can travel with your bike without folding or disassembling it on all our trains without booking a seat on Cercanías (commuter), Regional and Proximity trains, free of charge and without the need for booking in advance. Look for the "Accepted bicycle without booking in advance" label when buying your ticket on the website.
    • On Avant (mid-distance high-speed), Media Distancia (mid-distance), regional and Proximity trains with reserved seating, you must purchase the "Train+bike" add-on, allowing you to travel seated next to the space where you can place your bicycle, at no additional cost. Look for the "Bicycle seat available" label when buying your ticket on the website. If you have a pass, you will not be eligible for the bicycle add-on when you validate your trip, so you must go to a ticket office in your station.
    • On commercial services (AVE (high-speed), AVE Internacional, AVLO, Alvia, Euromed and Intercity) it is not possible to travel with bicycles that have not been disassembly, so they must be folded or disassembled.

  • And always remember that:

    • You are responsible for your bicycle. Keep this in mind during the trip to avoid possible damage or loss.
    • It is not possible to transport tricycles or special bicycles whose maximum dimension exceeds 2 meters.
    • Never use train plugs to recharge electric vehicles.
    • The bicycle must be placed in the spaces designated for this purpose, using the anchoring devices provided and following the instructions of the train staff. If there is no marked area on the train, place it without invading corridors or evacuation areas.
    • As well as the bicycle, you can take your hand luggage (knapsacks, backpacks or similar) and a bicycle seat for children, making sure that they do not obstruct the passage and removing them from the bicycle when necessary.
    • Remember that the availability of spaces on the train is limited and in cases of high occupancy, space may not be available for bicycles. Always follow the instructions of our staff, who will ensure that you can travel with your bike in conditions of safety and comfort for you and all other passengers on the train.
    • If you prefer, you can also leave your bike in any of the bicycle parking spots at the stations. Read all the information.
    • For Rodalies de Catalunya (commuter) services, the conditions of access and operation are determined by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Check all the information.

At many stations, we have parking for bicycles and scooters, to leave them safely while traveling. We have protected spaces that allow you to protect your vehicle from theft, vandalism and adverse weather conditions.

Most stations have free 'inverted U' type parking, where you can park your bicycle or scooter at no cost.

Check the information on secure and gated parking facilities at stations.
