TRAVEL WITH AVLO
Requena-Utiel station offers visitors the chance to discover two cities with a lot to offer: Requena and Utiel. Discover this region, known as the "Castilian Valencia" that is known for its mix of styles.
Requena, a city full of history, is located in Tierra Bobal, where the forest surrounds the vineyard. Its origins date back to the seventh century BC. It is home to several archaeological sites dating to different eras, including the Iron Age and the Roman era. The city blends Muslim and Christian influences, typical of the Reconquest in the Middle Ages, and an example of this can be seen in its historic quarter.
This historical heritage is reflected in its monuments such as the Church of Santa María, with its Elizabethan flamboyant Gothic style, or the Torre del Homenaje at the Castle of Requena, dating back to the fifteenth century. Palacio del Cid (yes, that Cid) is also well worth a visit, currently home to the city's Wine Museum.
Utiel boasts a unique underground layout, with Medieval passages and underground cellars transporting you to another era. Are you really going to miss the opportunity to discover this?
However, there is much more to Utiel than what it is hiding underground. It has a Muslim-style old quarter bursting with history, home to the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (16th century), in a southern Gothic style, and the Open Air Museum with a range of paintings and murals dotted across different corners.
Kick back and enjoy the Paseo de la Alameda, the city's most emblematic park, which serves as the backdrop for many parties and leisure activities.
