We tell you everything you want to know about the Via Pass: the discounts available, how the price is calculated, its advantages compared to other passes and much more. Consult out our FAQs to help decide which pass best suits your needs.

What does the Via Pass offer you?

The Pase Vía pass is free, and you will receive a discount every time you travel, with a 50% discount included!

  • The Via Pass consists of a quarterly subscription of 10 trips in 45 days or 20 trips per quarter. Each trip has a 50% discount, with an additional initial 45% discount on the base fare. In addition, once you have made 10/20 trips, you will be able to continue travelling and stack up on the discounts.
  • The minimum discount of 45% is the one that will increase as you make more trips.
  • It is nominative, personal and non-transferable.
  • For trips between any departure/arrival station on Avant (mid-distance high-speed) trains. You can also use it on Commercial Services train journeys, in economy class, authorised as recurring Avant (mid-distance high-speed) services.
  • You can travel up to four times a day (one-way and/or return).
  • Validity:  calendar quarter (January - March, April - June, July - September and October - December).
  • You can subscribe to the Via Pass from 30 days before the start of each validity period.

How do I purchase and use the Via Pass?

  • To purchase your Pase Vía pass, you must complete the free quarterly registration process at renfe.com, providing your personal details and a bank card to pay for the trips you make.
  • Before you travel, you must book your trips in advance (maximum one seat for the same train on the same day), although you will not pay anything until the date you travel.
  • This advance reservation can be made at the ticket offices or self-service machines at the stations. Also on the Renfe APP and at renfe.com (in these cases, you must be a registered user).
  • Remember that you can travel up to four times a day (one-way and/or return).
  • The amount of the trip is charged to the bank card you provided at the time of signing up, applying the corresponding discounts depending on the number of trips you have made.
  • The subscription you subscribe to is for at least 20 trips per quarter. If you do not reach this limit, you will have to pay the difference between those 20 trips and those you have made in the subscribed quarter.
  • When a period of 45 days or less elapses between the first and last trip made in the quarter, the minimum number of trips will be 10  (instead of 20).
  • If you are not going to use a reservation, remember to cancel it at least 60 minutes in advance. Otherwise, the price of the ticket will be charged to your card, even if you cancel your trip.

Other conditions of the Via Pass

  • Payment using Renfe Points is not accepted. However, you can earn Renfe Points on each journey you take starting from 13 February 2026.
  • Only Spanish Large Family discounts and any others that are specifically indicated in the corresponding terms and conditions can be applied to the price.
  • Changing the date and/or time of the trip reservation is not allowed, but you can cancel it at no cost and make new reservations.
  • You can cancel your subscription as long as you have not taken any trips and do not have any active reservations. If you do not cancel your pass, but do not make any transactions with your Pase Vía pass, no charge will be applied and you will not be required to meet the minimum number of trips.
  • Bear in mind that you will not be able to book journeys for two or more consecutive trains in the same direction, when between two bookings, the departure time of the first and the second is less than 180 minutes or triple the journey time of the first booking.
  • If you cannot charge a trip to your bank card, you will not be able to make any further bookings, a new subscription or purchase other passes for Avant (mid-distance high-speed) services. If, after four attempts on successive days, it has not been possible to process the payment for the trips made, all bookings in force from that date onwards will be cancelled and you will lose the right to purchase an additional subscription or other Avant subscriptions until the outstanding debt is settled. For each failed payment attempt, you will be informed via email using the address provided at the time of subscription.
  • Remember that if you do not make the minimum of 20 trips in the quarter, you will have to pay the difference between those 20 trips and those you have made. The value of trips not made will correspond to the most frequently used origin-destination or, when there are two or more considered most frequent, the first trip of these made during the quarter. The Pase Vía discount will be applied to any trips not made, but no additional discounts shall be applied, except where expressly permitted.
  • When a period of 45 days or less elapses between the first and last trip made in the quarter, the minimum number of trips required will be 10 (instead of 20). The charge for the difference in trips not taken will be made in accordance with the above.
