On AVE and Larga Distancia (long distance high-speed) trains, you can travel with your pet as long as:
Pets must always travel with their own pet ticket and do not take up a seat. If you are travelling with a Premium ticket, your pet travels for free. If your ticket is Básico (Basic) or Elige (Pick & Mix) ticket, you will only have to pay 10 euros more to take your pet with you.
On Media Distancia (Mid-distance) and Avant (mid-distance high-speed) trains, you can travel with your pet as long as:
Your pet does not occupy a seat. The cost of the ticket is 25% of the price of the general fare.
Please note that train+bus combined tickets do not accept pets.
Guide and assistance dogs always travel free and are not subject to weight or transportation limitations.

We launched a pilot test, which ran until 15 December, allowing dogs weighing up to 40 kilos to travel on our trains.
This initiative, in which we took advice from Nestlé Purina, is launching on AVE (high-speed) trains on the Madrid-Barcelona line, allowing passengers to travel with one large dog per person (maximum of two dogs per train).
Renfe and Nestlé Purina have prepared a travel guide with recommendations to ensure the animal's welfare during the trip, such as bringing your own blanket and silent toy or avoiding feeding them during the three hours prior to the trip to prevent sickness.
This service is now available for trains that are part of the pilot test. You can purchase the add-on when you book your ticket online.
Please note that this add-on is available exclusively for Elige Estándar tickets and does not allow seat selection, as seats for dogs over 10 kilos are already assigned. No changes are allowed, although cancellations are (specific terms and conditions for the Elige Estándar ticket or Full refund if you have purchased it).
