What to see in Aix-en-Provence

It is now easier than ever to fulfil your dream of visiting Aix-en-Provence. Hop on a train to visit this piece of heaven in the Mediterranean, Aix-en-Provence, old historical capital of Provence. Evidence of this can be found in the elegant buildings with its luxurious façades. Many of these are found on Cours Mirabeau, which connects Mazarin district to the city's historic district. A very lively meeting point in the city centre. There are four impressive fountains on Cours Mirabeau. The most striking is the Roundabout, for its dimensions. 

A privileged city for its climate, it invites visitors to get lost in its cobbled streets and squares, which are lively all year round, and in which you can relax sitting at one of its terraces. Another excuse to visit them, is that this is the third most importance city in France, after Paris and Versailles, in terms of its Baroque heritage.

Paul Cézanne​​ 

What would Cézanne be without the light of Aix and Aix without the painter who captured the colours of the region in his work like no other? There is a special route for art lovers: Cézanne's birthplace, the cafés where he would meet with his friends, his workshop, his family's homes, until reaching Saint-Pierre cemetery.   

Granet Museum, one of the most beautiful in France, exhibits the work of Cézanne and other renowned artists, such as Ingres and Rembrandt. There is always some interesting on exhibition, because the city has a great cultural offer all year round.​ 

Mediterranean nature ​ 

You cannot miss the opportunity of going on an outing to the countryside, a unique experience. Its smells and colours will flood our senses. You can also join some of the tours organised by the Tourist Office. You can't leave without buying some of these products: oils, soaps or aromatic sachets

In the traditional open-air markets, you can find some of the region's star products: almonds, oil and wines. Wine was already brought by the Greeks, the basis of Provençal cuisine. You can also visit five active mills during the oil production season. And, in December, you can attend the Oil festival. ​​​​ 

Before you leave, make sure to check out some of the floral motifs of the typical fabrics of Provence: prints on tablecloths, aprons and towels, in full colour. A palette full of colours, a rainbow of colours, which will invite you to visit this beautiful region again and again.
