One of the many things that winter brings is the cold, and although it can often be an inconvenience when making plans, it also brings us fun activities... like snow sports! And, although Spain is well known for its beaches, we also have a wide variety of ski resorts to rival the best in the world.
Ready to discover the best places to ski in Spain? Let's go!
The Pyrenees of Aragon
If there is one place on the Spanish mainland that has the perfect geography for ski slopes, it is the Pyrenees of Aragon. This mountainous system is the perfect setting for enjoying the mountain and skiing on vertigo-inducing slopes.
- Cerler. This ski resort is a regular lists containing the best places to ski in the world, and there is no wonder. Its many attractions include the longest ski slope in the whole country measuring around 9 km against an impressive backdrop. Boasting 68 slopes measuring 79 km in length and 375 artificial snow cannons. Cerler is located in the heart of the Pyrenees of Aragon, next to Benasque (considered the highest village in this part of the Pyrenees, more than 1500 m above sea level).
- Formigal. Also in the province of Huesca is Formigal, one of the best known slopes in Spain that has also earned the reputation of having a youthful atmosphere and great slopes for the most experienced skiers. The resort has a total of 147 slopes that combined make for more than 180 km of skiable slopes. A veritable luxury for fans of snow and winter sports!

The Catalan Pyrenees
- Vall de Núria. In eastern part of the Pyrenees, in the province of Girona and just a short trip from Barcelona, is Vall de Núria. Both the resort and the mountain that bears its name boast a natural and unique beauty as well as a landscape that makes its slopes an authentic sensory experience that goes beyond simple sport. Despite not being one of the biggest resorts, the natural environment in which Vall de Núria is nestled, makes it worth it for the views. In addition to its unique beauty, this resort has another clear attraction: an imposing rack railway that climbs a slope of more than 1000 m to access the resort.
- La Molina. Possibly the best known and busiest resort for ski enthusiasts in Catalonia. Located in the Catalan Pyrenees in the town of Alp, as well as being home to 68 slopes measuring a combined 71 km, La Molina has hosted multiple international events such as the Alpine Ski World Cup and the Snowboard World Championships.
- Baqueira Beret. Probably the best known station in Spain, as well as being the most exclusive. Also located in the Catalan Pyrenees, in the heart of the Aran Valley of Lleida, Baqueira Beret has no less than 113 slopes with a total skiable area of more than 2000 hectares. Furthermore, the area surrounding the resort in the Aran Valley means its beauty and charm is almost incomparable, making these slopes some of the best in Spain. What's more, the destination is popular amongst French tourists.
