The best beaches in Barcelona: From Barceloneta to Nova Icaria

Barcelona is synonymous with good weather, infinite leisure, spectacular cuisine, and of course, the beach!

The coastline of this spectacular city is full of sandy beaches where you can relax and enjoy after a day discovering Barcelona... If you're looking for a holiday destination that has it all, look no further! Are you ready to soak up the sun and take a dip in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean? Get ready to live an unforgettable experience!

La Barceloneta

Probably the best known beach in Barcelona, and for good reason! La Barceloneta is a city icon on account of all the bars and restaurants it is home to and all the sports and leisure facilities that the beach has to offer. Can you imagine anything better than enjoying a sunny day on this urban beach while savouring a delicious paella and drinking an ice-cold sangria? Sounds like paradise, right?!

Castelldefels Beach

Playa de Castelldefels stretches along more than 5 kilometres of coastline southwest of Barcelona. It is known for being one of the longest and widest beaches on the Catalan coast, offering an ideal environment for families and water sports lovers. This beach can be accessed by train from the Barcelona city centre in approximately 30 minutes, making it a popular destination for those looking for a day trip from the city.

Playa de Gavà

Playa de Gavà is located south of Barcelona and is famous for its quieter and less crowded natural surroundings compared to the beaches closer to the city centre. Although it can also be reached by train from Barcelona, Gavà offers a more relaxed and local atmosphere, perfect for those who prefer to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more serene beach day. Its clean waters and wide expanse of sand are perfect for long walks or just relaxing in the sun.

Montgat Beach

Located north of Barcelona, Montgat Beach is known for its natural beauty and more relaxed atmosphere. It's a quieter beach than many of the options near the city centre, making it popular with those looking to escape the urban hustle and bustle. Its clear waters and soft sand are ideal for swimming and water sports. Montgat also offers several restaurants and bars along the promenade, where visitors can enjoy local gastronomy facing the Mediterranean Sea.

Somorrostro

Between Hospital del Mar and Calle de la Marina, Somorrostro is adjacent to La Barceloneta and is right next to the Olympic Port, making it a safe bet for tourists! It is also close to Barcelona Zoo and Parc de la Ciutadella.

Sant Miquel

Another of the most famous (and oldest!) beaches in the city is Sant Miquel. Close to the city centre and next to Plaza del Mar, it boasts all the services you need to enjoy the perfect dip and more!

Bogatell and Mar Bella

Bogatell is the beach par excellence of Poblenou and is one of the beaches recovered in the 90s. Like most of its Barcelona neighbours, Bogatell has services of all kinds and is less crowded than the beaches closer to the historic centre of Barcelona.

Right next to Bogatell we find the Mar Bella Beach in Barcelona. This beach boasts a younger atmosphere and features a space set aside for nudism. It is also equipped with sports facilities and a children's play area.

Coves in Barcelona

In addition, Barcelona not only offers sandy beaches, but also boasts stunning coves. One of the best known is Cala dels Vienesos, nestled in Serra de Collserola Natural Park. Are you ready to explore a hidden gem surrounded by nature? This cove is perfect for hiking lovers, as you can reach it through a beautiful path surrounded by trees and vegetation. Once there, you will be amazed by the tranquility and beauty of this small cove. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the magic of this place!

Nova Icaria Beach

If you are looking for a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere, we recommend visiting Nova Icaria Beach. Do you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in an oasis of peace? Then this is the perfect beach for you!

Here you will find fewer crowds and more space to enjoy the sea breeze in total calm. You can enjoy a nap under an umbrella, play a game of beach volleyball with your friends or just relax and gaze at the horizon. I guarantee you'll feel refreshed and rejuvenated on this tranquil beach!
