Free four-month passes on Cercanías Asturias and Cercanías Cantabria

Starting 1 April, you can obtain the Free Passes for the second quarter of 2026, valid from 1 May to 31 August.

In the case of the Asturias and Cantabria Cercanías (Commuter) hubs, you can continue to benefit from free passes until 31 December 2026, requesting the corresponding pass every four months. Please check the information about the new passes and fares for all other Cercanías (Commuter) train services and networks.

Find out how to obtain the free four-month pass for frequent travellers on Cercanías Asturias and Cercanías Cantabria and how to use it. Purchase your pass at the usual points of purchase: Renfe Cercanías (Commuter) App (recommended), self-service machines and ticket offices at stations.

How can I use and benefit from this pass?

  • The pass is valid for 4 months (expires on 31 August 2026).
  • To purchase your pass, please register at renfe.com or using the Renfe and Renfe Cercanías Apps.
  • You can buy it now at the usual points of purchase: Renfe Cercanías App, self-service machines and station ticket offices.
  • The pass is free, but you will be asked to make a deposit of 10 euros to purchase it. We recommend using a credit/debit card to pay for the pass.
  • The deposit will be returned to your card automatically at the end of the 4 months of validity of the pass, provided that you have made a minimum of 16 journeys (remember to validate your pass at the start of your trip; in some cases, you may also need to validate it on departure).
  • Until you have received the refund of your free pass deposit, you must keep the TSC card with which you use your pass, as well as any receipt or proof of purchase as these may be needed to request the refund for the deposit or resolve any issues that may occur as part of the process.

Don't forget that until you have received your refund, you must keep the pass (QR for digital passes or TSC for physical passes) and the receipt or proof of purchase. These documents may be needed to process your refund or resolve any issues that may occur as part of the process.

Consult the information in relation to refund of deposits for the 2024 and 2025 free passes. You can also find out more by calling 91 919 15 67 or our FAQs.

We inform you that you can request the return of your deposit until April 30, 2024.

We also remind you that if you have not requested the refund of the deposit for your 2022 pass, you have until 31 December 2023 to claim it.

Please bear in mind that you must keep your digital or physical pass and the purchase ticket or receipt until your deposit for the pass has been refunded, since these are required to request the refund or to solve any incident that may occur throughout the process.

  • If you paid the deposit by credit card:

The deposit will be automatically returned between 9 and 20 May to the card with which you purchased the pass as long as you have made a minimum of 16 journeys and your pass is not included in the list of non-compliance with anti-fraud measures.

If you have not received the refund by 20 May, please visit a Customer Service point to fill in the Refund Form providing your details so that we can review your case.

  • If you paid the deposit in cash:

From 16 May onwards, you can request a refund by visiting any point of sale or Customer Service point. You must present your pass along with your DNI or NIF/NIE as well as any receipt or proof of purchase you have.

If the deposit cannot be refunded to you at the time due to an issue, you will be asked to fill in the Refund Form providing your details. Your request will be processed by our After-Sales staff and they will inform you whether you are entitled to a refund or not.

These conditions for the refund of your deposit do not apply to passes in ISO/magnetic stripe format purchased for Rodalies de Catalunya (Cercanías (Commuter) and Regional) and Metric Gauge services.

We expect the stations to be very busy during this period, so we recommend:

  • Downloading the Renfe Cercanías (Commuter) App and purchase your pass through this channel, provided that this option is available.
  • Anticipating your arrival at the station to validate your trip.
  • Avoiding peak hours.
  • Keeping the QR or your card with you while the pass is still valid.
  • Purchasing the pass with a debit or credit card (preferred method of payment).
