Hand luggage

You can carry up to 3 pieces of hand luggage onto the train, provided that the sum of the three does not exceed 25 kg or 290 cm.

The maximum dimensions allowed are 85x55x35 cm. (height-width-depth).

If travelling on the AVE International high-speed train between Spain and France, the same terms and conditions apply to hand luggage, except that luggage tagging is mandatory.

Types of hand luggage

  • Suitcases, handbags, rucksacks, laptop bags and similar.
  • Baby seats and pushchairs must always be folded away.

In addition,

  • Musical instruments, carried in their case, may not be bigger than 30 x 120 x 38 cm. (width-length-depth).
  • All bicycles and scooters folded in a case are considered hand luggage, provided that the total do not exceed 180 cm. They will be accepted free of charge on all regular Renfe Viajeros (Renfe Passengers) services if they meet this requirement. The transport policy for unfolded bicycles and scooters depends on the type of train you are travelling on. Read all information about this.

 

Keep in mind that, when you are travelling on Avlo trains, you can carry the following types of luggage, which are included in the price of your ticket:

  • 1 piece of hand luggage (bag, rucksack, etc.), maximum dimensions: 36x27x25 cm, with no weight limit
  • 1 cabin bag, maximum dimensions: 55x35x25 cm, with no weight limit

If you need to add an additional piece of larger-sized luggage (suitcase, bicycle, scooter, etc.), measuring a maximum of 85x60x35 cm. (or no more than 180 cm in total), you can do so when purchasing your ticket for €10 or after purchase up to 30 minutes before your train departs through any of our sales channels for €15.
