You can carry up to 3 pieces of hand luggage onto the train, provided that the sum of the three does not exceed 25 kg or 290 cm.

The maximum dimensions allowed are 85x55x35 cm. (height-width-depth).

If travelling on the AVE (high-speed) International high-speed train between Spain and France, the same terms and conditions apply to hand luggage, except that luggage tagging is mandatory. 

Please bear in mind that the luggage policy is stricter on Avlo trains. Read the information.
 
  • Suitcases, handbags, rucksacks, laptop bags and similar.
  • Baby seats and pushchairs must always be folded away.

In addition,

  • Musical instruments, carried in their case, may not be bigger than 30 x 120 x 38 cm. (width-length-depth).
  • All bicycles and scooters folded in a cover are considered hand luggage as long as their dimensions do not add up to more than 180 cm between the three elements, and therefore will be accepted free of charge on all regular Renfe Viajeros (Renfe Passengers) services. The policy for transporting bicycles and scooters without folding depends on the type of train you are travelling on. Check all the relevant information here.

Keep in mind that, when you are travelling on Avlo trains, you can carry the following types of luggage, which are included in the price of your ticket:

  • 1 piece of hand luggage (bag, rucksack, etc.) subject to the following size limitations: 36x27x25 cm, no weight limit
  • 1 suitcase, subject to the following size limitations: 55x35x25 cm, no weight limit


If you need to add 1 piece of additional, larger-sized luggage, measuring a maximum of 85x60x35 cm. (or no more than 180 cm in total), you can do so when purchasing your ticket for €10 or after purchase up to 30 minutes before the departure of the train through any of our sales channels for €15.  

The entry and conditions for these trains are set by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Therefore, the rules set out on this page do not apply for these trains.
